Question 2

The “on the way” space is a part of the everyday journey. How would you suggest it is enhanced in a public transport & in a building? Shows examples of current ideas.

“On the way” space also defines as through space or transition space that connecting space between two confined spaces. Architectural space are incomplete without this space. “On the way” spaces in a building are stair, corridor, waiting area (public transport) and others. Sometimes people may stay in this “on the way” space in a longer time due to the technical error such as, breakdown of LRT system.

“ARCHITECTURE IS THE THOUGHTFUL MAKING OF SPACE.”

LOUIS KHAN

Although it’s just a space that allowed people to move and proceed to another space, it also a part of architecture. So, we need to concern about it. Can you imagine that you are walking in a corridor or tunnel which is surround by the blank wall just serve it function as a corridor? Let’s compare with the corridor with some colours, light, painting and etc.

Through the lecture given and some research, I have come out with some suggestions:

Suggestion 1 | Advertisement

By putting on some advertisement, it can be fun and exciting. While waiting for bus, people can take a photo and post it on Instagram (trend) that helps to reduce the boringness (entertainment). Besides that, it helps to advertise a certain product better.

Fun and exciting idea Product advertisetment

Suggestion 2 | Information

People can read while waiting for bus or LRT and get to know more about something that are useful.

Suggestion 3 | Comfortable area

A comfortable resting area is important for someone who is tired after travelling or working.

Suggestion 4 | Nature

Daylighting can helps to cheer up a person that stress after work and creates a more lively space. Greenery and water also can make people feel relax and provides eye comfort. Besides, it creates a cold atmosphere to the entire walkway or tunnel that reduce the tiredness.

Suggestion 5 | Interesting

1. Installation art

Nowadays, the young generation likes to take photo and post to social media, especially “OOTD-Outfit Of The Day”. Here can be the platform for them to do so.

2. Theme-

Theme is something important that creates identity to a place or to publish a new concept or idea.

Suggestion 6 | Creativity

The music stairs not only serve as aesthetic purpose but also produce nice melody to help reduce stress and be more relax while people pass by. It also may attract children to play with rather than running here and there.

All these proposals are to create a creative and unusual “on the way” space that may attract a lot of people and will be remember. In my opinion, a space must serves not only it original function but more.
