Question Assignment 1 : The Walk

THE WALK is the movie that made me marvel at the architecture and made me curious about the world created in the film.

The Walk is directed by Robert Zemeckis, the director of Forrest Gump, Cast Away and Flight. THE WALK is written by Christopher Browne and Zemeckis. It is based on a true story of artist Philippe Petit's wire walking perform between the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center on August 7, 1974. The film was dedicated to the victims of the September 11 attacks in 2001.

The dream of Philippe Petit is to walk between the void from the two towers of World Trade Center. I believe everyone have your own dream, but did your dream easily came true? The answer had already been in everyone’s mind, before you achieved your dreams, there are certain obstacle that you will have to go through.

Philippe Petit faces many obstacle before he achieve his dreams and those issues almost eradicate his plan. He learn from his mentor-Papa Rudy, and create a team to help him achieve his dream. His mentor-Papa Rudy advised him: “Most balancers die when they arrived, they think they had arrive but still in the cable. If u have three steps to do, ardently would take those steps, if u think u are invincible, you will die.”

This movie showing his passion, patience, strong mentality and leadership when he facing with problem to achieve his dream that we should learn from Philippe Petit. He take pictures of everything, and note every detail of every inch of the towers. After then he make architecture model of the Twin Tower and study everything as gravity force, ventilation and balance between the void of Twin Tower. One of the example that inspiring me was his foot stepped on nails and injure before the date that he had make decision to walk between the Twin Tower. He never give up and wounded perform to achieve his dream.

Before achieve our dream, we need someone’s love, encourage and accompany such as family or friend to keep motivate us although everyone treat us as madman.

At the end of movie, Philippe’s girlfriend Annie chooses to follow her dream, and return to Paris. The building manager gives Philippe a free pass to the observation decks of both towers, and the expiry date on the pass was crossed out and changed to "forever".

Besides that I realised that this movie is CANDIDE, which is one of the eight basic stories in story concept. This movie showing the different culture, economy and architecture in 1970s century between New York City and Paris. The architecture showing in the movie is Eiffel Tower and the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center. From the comparison of highest architecture building between French and United States, the Twin Towers are higher than Eiffel Tower 100 meter and the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center is the world highest building in 1974. The Towers of the World Trade Center are elegant and majesty that I never see before because of the terrorist attack and causing the complete collapse of buildings. Architecture is importance in this movie which reveal the challange between human and architecture.
