OLA BOLA

To compare the story of the movie to ONE of the eight basic stories learnt in class.

Ola Bola is a football film directed by Chiu Keng Guan, the director of The Journey. Ola Bola tells about the glories of Malaysia national football team which successfully entered the 1980 Summer Olympics.

Ola Bola start with a young woman who are prepares to emigrate to England because she feel disillusioned with her working life in Malaysia. Before she left for England, she decided to complete her work for the last time. Marianne is a young journalist and she had been ordered to research the glories of Malaysia national football team in the era of 1980s.

However, she discovered that the story was so amazing and she found a reason to continue stay in Malaysia, which had changed her mindset and life.

Besides that, I realised that this movie is CANDIDE, which is one of the eight basic stories in story concept. Ola Bola tellls about the dream of Malaysia football team, how they solve their problem, never give up and achieve their dream. This movie is not only about football, Ola Bola also showing that the culture, family, relationship and lifestyle of Malaysian in that era. The director found that fun fair give him a lot of memories when he was young, they rebuild the fun fair to present the kampung lifestyle and entertainment which did not have internet.

All glory comes from daring to begin.

In Malaysia football team, all players are come from different state with different religion, different language, different race but their dream are same. They faces many obstacle before achieve their dreams and those issues almost eradicate their plan. One of the example that inspiring me was during the competition break, some of the team member realise that Malaysia had boycott 1980 Summer Olympics because of Soviet invasion in Afghanistan. This is the biggest obstacle that when u realise your dream cannot come true, what are u fight for? They realise that should not give up because whole Malaysian are supporting them. The member football team are the heroes, they cannot kept down on the way to achieve their dream. Ola Bola based on true events, showing us that there is beauty in our diversity and strength in our unity.

We might just find our reason to fight for our dreams in this beautiful country called Malaysia.

Ola Bola also a patriotic film, a film that can unite Malaysian, a story reminds us although we are speaking in different language but we sing in same national anthem. Theme song of Ola Bola "Arena Cahaya" inspired by different language in Malaysia and using different language to create a awesome melody which can ignite our spirit and dream.
