To critically assess the cast design and their individual character. Was the cast designed well? Did all characters have a purpose? Were the individual characters well explored? Or lacked depth?

Leonardo DiCaprio as Hugh Glass

Hugh Glass is a protagonist in this movie. She plays a role as a trapper, who seeking revenge for the murder of his son.

" I will be right here. But, don't give up easily. As long as you can still grab a breath, you fight. You breathe...keep breathing." - Hugh Glass said to his son. He always encourage his son not to give up easily and he also become the model of it too. He is brave and not to give up easily as he struggling against the bear's attack. And tried to survive and seeking revenge for the murder of his son even he got injured seriouly and even can't walk properly since he had attacked brutally by the bear.

Family, is what Hugh Glass had often recalled in his mind. It shows that he is a protective and caring person. And he really loves his family.

He is kind because he rescued and freed Powaqa who was raped by the leader of French pelt hunters when he infiltrated into the camp.

Besides, Hugh Glass has represent wisdom. He tried to survive in the winter night by sheltering himself inside carcass of a horse. This is just a tip of the iceberg for showing his wisdom.

Tom Hardy as John Fitzgerald

John Fitzgerald is an antogonist character. He, is a trapper who kills Glass's son, Hawk.

Fitzgerald is selfishness. He tried to kill Glass since Glass had injured and it delayed their journey. He had killed Glass's son, Hawk because Hawk tried to stop him to kill his father.

Fitzgerald, a heartless and cruel people. He left Glass with nothing to defend himself as he had assumed that Glass will die by leaving him to stayed alone.

Other than that, Fitzgerald is cowardly and mortally afraid of death. He did not dare to admit and also not to confess his fault about killing Hawk and chose to run away from the camp after stolen fort's money when he realized Glass is still alive. This is because he knew that Glass had come for revenge.

Domhnall Gleeson as Andrew Henry

Andrew Henry, a captain of the party. He is a mirror and minor character. In this movie, he showed his sense of responsibility as a leader should have. He provide assistance to others who came to seek refuge and need helps. This showed his kind and protective too.

He is wisdom. He tried to kill Fitzgerald after knowing the truth that told by Glass and admit by Bridger. He knew that Fitzgerald lied to him that Fitzgerald had killed his partner (Hawk) and even tried to kill Glass. Unfortunately, he had killed by Fitzgerald.

Will Poulter as Jim Bridger

Jim as a young trapper, is a minor and antogonist character in this movie. He and Fitzgerald leaves Glass alone in the forest to let Glass fend for oneself.

He is cowardly as he did not dare to stop Fitzgerald to leave Glass alone although he tried to stop it before. He also did not dare to tell the truth to Henry about Fitzgerald lied to him.

Jim actually is a kind and caring person. He used to take care Glass when Glass had injured at first before he instigate to abandoned Glass by Fitzgerald. He feel sorry and conpunction to Glass. Therefore, he did not receive the money that paid by Henry.

Forrest Goodluck as Hawk

Hawk, Glass's son. He is a mirror and minor character. He is filial and obedient. He take care of his father and never thought about leaving behind his father although his father has became a burden due to injured.

He is brave as he tried to save his father from being killed by Fitzgerald although he knew that he is difficult to fight against Fitzgerald.

Grace Dove as Hugh Glass's wife

Hugh Glass's wife, a romance and minor character. She, a Native American woman who passed away a few years ago. However, Glass and Hawk still remember her and miss her so much.

In my opinion, I think that their acting skills are so real. Especially when the scene of Glass watching his son (Hawk) killed by Fitzgerald, his anger, his powerless and sadness has fully expossed. The most thing that need to be notice is his expression, even the saliva has spray out. But it makes the role of emotions become more realistic and convey his feeling simply and strongly.

Other actors and actress have also express the characters well. The despicable of Fitzgerald, the cowardly but kindness of Jim and so on. I think the individual characters are well explored by everyone. This story is quite cruel and bloody, but true.

The expression and acting skill of characters:
