What inspired your current design final project? Please include your sketches and diagram to further inforce your statement.

For my final design project, I’m going to create an insightful and innovative designs to convert existing community hall ‘Dewan Orang Ramai’ of Sungai Buloh Settlement into a story museum, a place to commemorate the history of Sungai Buloh Settlement.

The inspiration of my design final project is general from the story of the leprosy person. How’s they feel being affected by the disease? How’s they feel their pain? How’s they looked for their life? After I comprehend the story, I derived their story based on 5 critical moment which is “Before the Silent”, “Segregation”, “Sorrowful Life”, “The New Hope” and “The Day After Tomorrow” and it’s a flow of the story.

In the “Before the Silent” part, the story is talk about where they are and what they are before they affected by the disease. Then “Segregation” is a starting point of the whole story, like they were being separated with their family by the government. After that, “Sorrowful Life” is the critical part toward the whole story. In this part, is focused on what they do during the disease, they were very pain and upset because they think that they has no hope. They just waiting to die because has no cure on that moment. “The New Hope” the medical personnel has found the cure for the leprosy person. “The Day After Tomorrow” is what they do currently, being cure and have a new life.

In this drawing can easily know that the thick and rough line is want to show their main story of their experience and life. The thin line is like a critical situation happen on that moment. More thin line means more critical situation happen, so it can relate to the flow of the story.

So I interpret their story and derive a concept idea that is HOPE. I want to create a feeling of hope, not only for the leprosy person but also the lay person. It was because lay person also will facing critical moment, so the point of my concept is also want to tell them do not give up.

So I play with the light, to define the light is hope. For example, when a person walking into a dim space, they will feel fear or uncomfortable because they can’t see and imaging what is behind and infront. However, they see the light and follow the light to be a guidance for the person and lead them out from the dim space. This is what I define the light is hope.

This drawing is want to show the leveling and intensity of the light. Leveling to represent the perspective of people seeing this disease and the leprosy person. However, this is also show the perspective of the leprosy person facing this the disease, negative or positive perspective. Intensity of light are playing the main role toward the whole design, using this to categories the spaces.

Below are some sketches and drawing to enhance my design.
