Question : What inspired your current Design Final Project? Please include your sketches and diagrams to further inforce your statements.

Our current Design Final Project is convert existing community hall ‘Dewan Orang Ramai’ of Sungai Buloh Settlement into a story museum, a place to commemorate the history of Sungai Buloh Settlement.

WAYS OF THEIR WORLD

I was inspired by the "人情世故" (ways of the world) of the people of Sg. Buloh settlement. They need our respect. We as an outsider, should appreciate their sacrifice and protect them. They go through the most painful moment in their life without their family member by their side, they struggle, they gone through a lot of treatment, injection, operation just to survive. Here is their homeland with a lot of memory, therefore we should not destroy it but we conserve. In summary, there are 5 stages of life, Before The Siren - The Segregation - The Sorrowful Life - A New Hope - The Day After Tomorrow. These 5 stages, we also applied into our installation art previously to make people "experience" their experience.

Dewan Orang Ramai of THE VALLEY OF HOPE

I wish to create a story museum that enhancing public awareness and appreciation of the past and someday, it can be part of the World Heritage. A valley/ settlement with their own currency, community, jail, system and organization. A world that segregated from outside world.

Way of Life

A painting that shows the different between us and the leprosy patient.

The different experience between us and them create a big contrast. A normal people with normal life like us. For instance, once we come to the world, we are growing up with our parent or family, then, we will send to kindergarten, primary school, secondary school and some will go for university, then continue with working life and getting married or others choices. Unfortunately, they do not have any others ways of life once they get this disease. For example, they cannot raise their children up and force to send them for others. Some of them are lucky meet their children after so many years, some of them still finding and some of them meet after the patient passed away.

Here, is the photo collage of the people and things around them. I teared manually and collage to create texture so that when people touch on it, they will feel the incomplete also represent that every people came from different place and form a community.

Site Context

Besides, I also inspired by the site context. Proposed site is surround by 3 major types of building, which is commercial, public facilities and religious building. public space occupied the largest number. From this analysis, I found out that public space serve as a place that can gather people together to share their story. Throughout this, I hope I can consider a community space in my story museum design to serve this function.

Architecture Element & Materials

Architecture Elements such as glass louver, masonry wall, vent block, vertical fin and etc. are actually the elements that we familiar with. No matter you are a leprosy patient or a normal people. Memory will not expired. By remaining and develop the existing materials and elements it can create a new space with the origin memory for people to experience. We as a normal people also have the memory of these elements. So, while looking at these elements, we will think about our past and appreciate what we have now.

Below are the sketches of my design

For me, design inspiration comes from everywhere, sometimes I will get inspired while listen to a music or reading on a poetry. Nowadays, people usually find inspiration through internet. For instance, archdaily, pinterest, google and youtube. There are a lot of ideas and inspiration you will get while exploring these website. But, if we are experience by ourselve, we will actually inspired by more elements compared to sitting in front of computer.
