What inspired your current Design Final Project? Please include your sketches and diagrams to further in force your statements.
My latest Design final project for semester 3 is to design a fish market in Tumpat, Kelantan. My design and idea are inspired from the weakness of site circulation. After the site visit and S.W.O.T analysis, I am inspired by the surrounding natural environment, circulation and activity of locals. Design is to solve problem, the weakness of circulation in that site inspired me to solve those problem by create a convenient circulation and community.
The red gradient showing the density of human crowd over the area. Because the site is located at a rural area so there are a lot of void and undeveloped area. The community may just walk and create their own path on those void spaces or even create their own play space. Community even create their own goal post on the proposed site and play around the open area. Locals even made their own path through the proposed site to reach the shore, because some of their boat are parked along the shore. They will either drive or walk to the shore from the red circle.
One of the weakness of the circulation is the lack of pavement for pedestrian. It is dangerous for pedestrian to walk along the road side, because the main road is 2 way and narrow. So a pavement design consideration may increase the locals and also the student safety.
Other weakness of the circulation :
Sub roads too narrow, creates unface for incoming traffic from opposite direction.
No pedestrian walkway at main road and no proper drop-off point at bus stops.
Too narrow for Emergency mobile to engage site and insufficient car parks.
Too many obstacles causing discomfort when strolling on the beach.
Inspired by the problem of the site circulation and environment, i have an idea to create a convenience pathway on my site which link to locals residential area.
Inspiration and Idea
Safe - The pathway away from road is safety and convenient.
Time - Design in linear organization which shorten the distance from residential area to jetty and also saving the times.
Tide - Elevated up to prevent monsoon season.
Cool - Strong wind can cooling site temperature.
Grow - As a neuron which connect human density, strengthen economy, relationship and communicate of locals.
Walk - Solve the problem of insufficient car park. Residents can walk through without transportation.
Calm - Sound will be insulated by irregular shape and ground.
Unload - Fishermen can directly unload to site due to inconvenient small jetty.
Abstract model
The inspiration from the problem of site circulation directly affect the design of fish market. From the inspiration, I have an idea to create a street market which will blend with nature and site environment.
Street + Market = Street Market
Street + Garden = Leisure Park
Street Market + Leisure Park = Diversity & Liveliness

Final floor plan
The facade and form of fish market is inspired by the site environment. Tropical architecture as Malay house at the site is one of my inspiration which can reduce the temperature inside the building. Because of the site is beside the sea, so that the wind is strong and good for cooling the temperature of overall site area.
Inspired by the Malay House and design the form of the building interact with the nature environment.
Community . Nature
Nature and the problem surrounding us are the best inspiration for us, everything can be inspiration, even the tiniest atom or the galaxy can become our inspiration to built a better world.
