What have you learnt this semester (in theories) that has changed your perspective?

This semester in Theories of Architecture, i have learnt a lot about the meanings of life and architecture. The best preparation for tomorrow is doing your best today. Times management is very importance for architecture student. As an architecture student, we will face through a lot of assignment, presentation and exam, so that we must manage our times systematically. With a good time management system we can easily find the time to do the things that are important to us, whether in architecture or personal life.

Besides that, there are nothing impossible, is either of you want to do or not. The passionate of Architecture and the Dream are the motivation in architecture life. Every dream begins with a single step, we must have passion, patience and strong mentality in the architecture school and the road to achieve our dream. With the passionate of architecture and well times management, we can eliminate various mental problem and psychological obstacles easily in architecture life. Perspective of the dream and life of architecture are inspired from the Lecture 2 (Architecture + Film) - THE WALK and the Film Critique - The Revenant, Ola Bola.

Every dream begins with a single step.

The Walk, based on the triumphant true story from Robert Zemeckis, the director of Forrest Gump, Cast Away and Flight. “Most balancers die when they arrived, they think they had arrive but still in the cable. If u have three steps to do, ardently would take those steps, if u think u are invincible, you will die.” advised by his mentor Papa Rudy.

Never give up.

The Revenant, telling the story of Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio) faces many obstacle but he never give up and struggle to survive.

All glory comes from daring to begin. Lets lift your dreams way up high and lift your goals to the sky.

Ola Bola is a football film directed by Chiu Keng Guan, the director of The Journey. Ola Bola tells about the glories of Malaysia national football team which successfully entered the 1980 Summer Olympics.

Comparison of current religious buildings to past buildings.

Besides from the Film, The Theories of design thinking (Lecture 6) also changed my perspective of religious building. I found that even though there are different religious, but idea of thinking about the space is same, which is to create a sacred space to please God. From the historical buildings throughout different religious, there are some common features in architecture, which are large, high, and full of ornaments details. Compare to the Modernism religious buildings nowadays are more towards design in simple and functional. This is because the luxurious of ornaments is a waste of materials and we changed the design of appreciation to the God to based on close to nature and value the environment.

Designing in 5 senses and Innovation in Design

From the Lecture 8 ( Designing in 5 senses) and Lecture 10 (Innovation in design) both are inspired me and changed my perspective to the Idea and Concept of Architecture. The Community Centre in Malaysia - The Arc is totally connected with the power of nature, and we can use our 5 senses to feel the nature. The senses which created by the architects in this building is almost similar to the forest, which are suitable for community activity such as recreational activities. As an architecture students, we should learn and able to design a building by using human 5 senses. Every senses is importance and will create different experience for human activity, especially for community space.

THE INNOVATION IN DESIGN

-Forest of Light

Sou Fujimoto Architects create a unique installation in the world’s largest design fair in Milan design week for fashion brand COS. Inspired by nature and the experience of a forest at twilight, the installation presents light and sound in a new architectural context.

“People meander through this forest, as if lured by the charm of the light. Light and people interact with one another, its existence defining the transition of the other” – Sou Fujimoto

The concept of this installation is like a forest of light. "It's a forest-like space created by spotlights."says Fujimoto.

Cones of light will shine down from the ceiling, creating illuminated spaces that will respond to the movement of visitors. "The light is reacting to the behaviours of people, so it is not a static forest – always changing," Fujimoto says. "You can interact between the space and your body."

“Once, this place was a cinema and adopting the use of spotlight is an idea of homage. The spotlight becomes an interface, which connects fashion, space and forest as a form of architecture.” – Sou Fujimoto

Every light represent each special moment, as our life and memories, its happens there and then it`s gone without anything left.

The innovation design between light and architecture can create a different feeling and meaning of a space, it design including with the senses of architecture and the role of community architecture.
