Lecture 10: Innovation in Design

What have you learnt this semester (in theories) that has changed your perspective?
Throughout the Theories of Architecture Design class, I think I had gain a lot of knowledge and understand more about architectural theories that influence past and present architectural design thinking.
L E C T U R E S / T O P I C O F T H E W E E K
There are ten different topics we had discussed in class. From these lectures, I have learnt to express my personal understanding and ideas of the topics. For instance, I had tried to do research from Internet about the topic of the week and learn to express my personal opinion about the topic. In addition, I have applied the theories and knowledge which I have learnt in the class in my design. For instance, I have learnt about how architecture related with the five sensors of human. Despite fully attention of most current architects to the sense of eyesight, architecture stimulates all of our senses.

Besides that, I am glad to have the opportunity to attend PAM Talk and learn the knowledge from the speakers. The speakers shared their experiences with us which I think is very useful to develop my design thinking. As an architecture student, I think we have to explore our creative thinking by receiving more information and knowledge from the community and also other professionals. This is because the knowledge not only come from books but also from the experiences of others. For instance, our tutor had showed us 'Technology, Entertainment and Design Talks' (TED Talks) video during the class. I think TED Talks is a very informative and useful talk as we can gain a lot of different design thinking and creativity from the speakers.

It was a great experience to write a blog after watching films. From this experience, I learn to analyze and interpret the cast design of every character in the movie. In addition, I understand more about how architecture relates with the genre and background and setting of the movie. Now, I have learnt to analyze about the personalities and emotions of the movie characters while watching a movie. I think it is important for an architect to study about a human's personalities and emotions. This is because we can have idea to design a space based on a person's personalities to create a unique environment based on his / her characteristic.

I appreciate the opportunity to have this class in this semester because the class which is conducted by our tutor, Ms Sue, is interesting and I have learnt a lot of knowledge which I cannot gain in other classes. Now, I am able to apply the knowledge and theories I have learnt in my design studio and I think I am more passionate to 'ARCHITECTURE' because of this class.
